Boring Run Talk with More Goose!

Whew, I almost died. Seventy four degrees does feel like the surface of the sun when there's no shade and just black asphalt ahead. I powered through--a whopping 30 minutes of shoe-shuffling goodness.

Today is the first day of the rest of my life. I have committed to living in the present, just like dogs do (thanks Cesar Milan!). Here are my resolutions:

1. Run more.
2. Schedule runs with my peeps.
3. Remember that stressful times are when I need to run, not cancel a run.
4. Track my runs (mileage, time and shoes).
5. Be nicer to my husband (hard to believe, but I've been a real horse's ass to Michael).

Now onto more pleasant topics. My dog, Goose, must have eaten a corn cob three weeks ago. It rolled around in her stomach for awhile and then last Friday finally lodged in her intestine. Two x-rays, one ultrasound, three phone calls, one stomach/intestinal surgery and two million dollars later, Goose is good as new. Thanks to me, her nursemaid. She got three different medications with different dosages at different times of day. I had to carry her up and down the stairs. And at first, had to feed her every three to four hours. Not such Good Times(tm).

(an oldie but a goodie...caught mid-sneeze)

And finally, Penn State is looking really good. That game was epic and I enjoyed every last minute of it. Now, the Eagles are a different story, but I'm still not worried. If we had had Brian Westbrook last night we would have killed those stupid Bears. And Kyle Orton? Are you kidding me?

My baby is walking and wears a 5.5 double wide shoe.

Many people have played online games at some point. With each generation born, more are exposed to video gaming. The online game industry is more than likely going to keep growing over the next few years and you should stay up-to-date with new trends.

Don't abuse your game ps3 and its accessories. Doing so could shorten their lifespans. Gaming devices are extremely fragile. Before you know it, you could destroy your console or one of the controllers. In addition, you should never throw down your controller whenever you're angry because you could destroy your controller, which will end up costing you lots of money.

Watch your body when you play computer games. If you are playing video games, try sitting on a exercise ball to help you maintain proper posture. Also, be sure and take regular breaks and stretch every so often.

Try brightening the screen on your gaming system. Dark games are eerie, but they're also hard to play. Colors tend to blend together in the dark, and you can have a hard time spotting your enemies. Increase the brightness if you do not mind sacrificing a little ambiance. Brightness will allow you to see clearly.

Spend quality time with your children by taking on a computer game that you both enjoy. Many kids really enjoy playing games on their computers and video consoles. There is a lot to learn from playing online games. You can find games that are educational to teach them as well as help them learn the skill of hand-eye coordination.

Keep the computer you're on clear and make sure everything is up-to-date. If you game often on a particular system, avoid installing too many applications. Defragging the hard drive and using ScanDisk are very helpful. This allows you to keep everything on your computer running smoothly so you don't experience any slow down.

The ESRB rates games. The EC rating stands for early childhood or ages three and older. An E rating applies to games that are good for children aged six and over. E+10 means ten year olds and above can play. A T rating is for the age range of 13 plus. The M rating, also known as Mature, is appropriate for teens aged 17 and up. AO means Adults Only and RP is short for Rating Pending.

Start out with the easiest mode. If you discover a game is too easy, restart the game with a harder difficultly level. Once you have played on a beginner level for awhile, you will find it much easier to eventually play on a harder level.

Check out ratings when buying games for children. These games are rated for a reason. Any game with ratings like A or M are totally inappropriate for children. Check the website of the ESRB to learn more.

It can be tempting to go all out buying expansion packs, add-ons and upgrades for your new game. This can get very pricey! Instead, be disciplined with your spending. Check out what you've got in the game you bought and only add on what you can afford.

Figure out how to operate the safety and parental controls of any gaming system that comes into your home. You can likely make adjustments that keep kids from viewing mature content. Some allow each gaming profile to be customized separately, allowing adults to enjoy games not meant for younger audiences.

Computer Games are definitely here to stay. It's a great hobby and can keep your family and you entertained. If gaming sounds like something fun and interesting to you, then heed the advice you learned here, and use it whenever you take up this hobby.
